Boxing suffers a heavy blow with the loss of one the sport’s greatest trainers of all time, Emanuel Steward. Thursday seemed like a roller coaster of rumors and questions as to whether Steward had actually passed being there were conflicting reports from both his family and colleagues / friends. Around 3:30pm EST Thursday afternoon Emanuel’s sister finally confirmed by then what most of us thought to already be true that Steward had indeed passed away due to what is believed to have been stomach cancer. Steward got his notoriety by training the great Tommy Hearns along with fighters such as Lennox Lewis, Naseem Hamed, Wladimir Klitschko, Miguel Cotto and K-9 Bundrage. He’ll be missed both in the corner and at ringside where he was one of HBO Boxing’s commentators (while sometimes having corner duty as well).
