Looks as if we’ll be getting 2 big fights on the same night (as it stands right now). After Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s TKO victory over Andy Lee, the stage is set for the highly anticipated matchup between Chavez Jr and “recognized” Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Both camps have gone back and forth for close to a year to set this fight up, but it looks now like Chavez Jr’s camp feels Julio is ready to go. No contracts have officially been signed on along with a venue, but we should be hearing something shortly.

Another big fight that’s supposed to take place is a match up between former Jr Welteweight and Welterweight champion Victor Ortiz and Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez who is coming off a victory over recently retired Shane Mosley. Canelo’s been on some what of a roller coaster as far as opponent selections. He was scheduled to face Paul Williams until his tragic accident that’s left him paralyzed from the waist down. Then James Kirkland was set to replace him but suffered an injury (or did he?) that’s prevented him from taking a September fight. In steps Victor Ortiz who’s also had his share of issues with opponents as he was set to face Andre Berto in a rematch of their 2011 classic, but Berto’s tested postive for a banned substance which cancelled their fight. He’ll face Josesito Lopez (who he’s picked to beat) but is in line to face Alvarez at 154lbs which looks to be an exciting match up and Canelo’s toughest test to date.
I have a strong feeling one of these fights will be pushed off the Sept 15th date just to have a full audience and not having to decide which fight to watch being both are big fights for 2012.
