Those of you who haven’t been aware, Miguel Cotto and his camp have a had a rough past couple of weeks stringing from an incident which involved Miguel and his trainer / Uncle Evangelista both throwing blows (and bricks??) over a disagreement in training preparations for the upcoming fight with Joshua Clottey which inevitably turned into Miguel firing his own Uncle from the position as head trainer. Now there’s no secret within the Boxing world that both Miguel and Evangelista have had some issues within their relationship for some time now, but Miguel’s been able to overlook those obstacles and continue to perform at a high level. Now with Cotto recruiting his nutritionist Joe Santiago as his head trainer (huh???), some may believe Coto may be making the wrong move, though some also say it’s a long overdue parting of the Puerto Rican star and his now former trainer.
Truthfully, though I believe Cotto is overall the better fighter, his mental game is what worries me. He’s in a whole new situation now and I’m not sure if all the distractions outside the ring are going to affect him come fight night or prove to be something he’s already slid under the rug in attempt to get back to the top. We shall find out June 13th.
